About CPN

Building trust, standards, and professionalism in Nigeria's IT ecosystem.

The Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) was established to regulate, control, and supervise the computing profession and practice in Nigeria. It exists to ensure that growth in the national IT sector takes place within a framework of competence, ethics, accountability, and lawful professional practice.

Overview

An Overview of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria

In recognition of the increasing global prominence of Information Technology and its role as a driver of socio-economic development, the Federal Government identified the need for an appropriate regulatory mechanism to ensure that Nigeria's IT sector develops in an atmosphere free of quackery, arbitrary practice, and lack of standard.

Accordingly, the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) was established through Act No. 49 of 1993. The Act was passed into law on 10 June 1993 and gazetted on 9 August 1993, establishing CPN as a corporate entity charged with regulating, controlling, and supervising the computing profession and practice in Nigeria.

CPN operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Education, while the National Assembly performs oversight functions. Its statutory authority makes registration and licensing mandatory for persons and organisations engaged in IT training, IT services, or the use and sale of computing facilities within Nigeria.
